As Chief Technology Officer at Digital Realty, I shape strategy at the intersection of infrastructure and emerging technologies, from AI to quantum computing. Over the past decade, I’ve led the design and operation of more than 3 gigawatts of data center capacity, a scale few in the industry can match. Earlier in my career, I pioneered the relevance of colo to cloud by building the first private on-ramp between a major financial institution and a leading hyperscaler—a milestone that mirrors today’s AI adoption curve. At Digital Realty, my focus is enabling customers to unlock competitive advantage through AI-ready infrastructure capable of handling unprecedented scale and complexity. I work with the world’s largest platforms and enterprises to support next-gen AI workloads, advanced cloud deployments, and data-driven applications. Beyond Digital Realty, I serve as Chairman of FiberSense, a disruptive technology provider delivering real-time intelligence from global fiber networks. This dual vantage point—operating at hyperscale while steering breakthrough innovation—gives me a unique perspective on how infrastructure, data, and intelligence converge to shape the future.
Digital Realty is at the forefront of data center innovation. It is the lynchpin for Genetive AI coming to market and is set to future-proof the position of customers today, so they can maximize technology tomorrow. I am responsible for ensuring sustainable growth, while enabling the most cutting-edge deployments. This is made possible by supporting cloud providers and Digital Realty’s wider customer ecosystem to solve complex infrastructure, connectivity and workload use case conflicts. This includes managing ‘Data Gravity’ challenges – the explosion of enterprise data, globally. My team are committed to helping customers understand and harness the valuable opportunity data presents to gain a competitive advantage. We also believe that the world of data, technology, and infrastructure should be open and, therefore, encourage cross-collaboration to aid our customers even further. Digital Realty is the meeting place where companies, technologies, and data come together to enable and empower everyday lives.
As a board member of FiberSense, I’m bringing my experience of navigating the opportunities that new digital technologies present, to enhance and transform clients’ infrastructure, as well as the communities they serve. Through FiberSense, our world is rendered digital to make it more safe, accessible, and reliable. The organization is made from true innovators. I’m honored to be part of this journey and to continue driving the value of fiber optic cables, to transform our understanding of the movement and events unfolding around us.
As Digital Realty Trust is an investor in Colovore, supporting the organization’s mission to provide unrivaled colocation facilities and data centers, it was a no-brainer for me to join the Board of Directors. I’m proud to support this future-focused business, as it works to deliver high-performance colocation for high-performance computing.
My final role at Equinix saw me lead the development of innovative cloud services. By bringing my unique blend of strategic, technical and business experience, I was responsible for developing new technological capabilities. My core focus was to drive solutions that would accelerate broad commercial adoption of cloud computing. From securing funding and resources to launch a bespoke group focused on cloud acceleration within private access (which ended up representing 30% of total revenue), to taking on a critical role as core spokesperson and customer thought leader, I focused on securing coverage and supporting customer journeys at every step.
After making my initial mark on the business, I moved on to manage the Cloud & Content vertical, which represented a huge 46% of the revenue for what was the current customer base. This role saw me launch many collaborations, as I connected with leading cloud providers to design and deploy global infrastructure that would enable enterprises to quickly launch secure, hybrid cloud services. It was also in this position that my team launched a marketplace to connect cloud service providers with end-users, to offer cloud and SaaS services. A key success? Reducing churn within my team from 13% down to 3% through focused outreach to key customers, providing more value through interconnection.
In 2009 I joined the Equinix team and started out by defining new products and services, as well as setting the business strategy for Equinix Interconnections globally. It was in this role that I also developed the Equinix Ethernet Exchange, incorporating Ethernet services into the company’s infrastructure to ensure private peering with Equinix facilities. One of my most notable achievements involved driving substantial interconnect growth across Internet Exchanges and Cross Connects through focused awareness campaigns.
