I have managed a diverse range of successful teams for over two decades. The teams I have been responsible for over the years have included International Forecasters, Master Mariners, Marketing Managers, Business Management experts, Operational Delivery Managers, Business Unit Managers and Product Managers. Highlights of my career include leading the International Forecasting team to an award for excellence, creating a Sales & Marketing skills framework for developing our staff and delivering presentations to audiences ranging from Government Ministers to US Navy Admirals to FTSE-100 Senior Managers.
I've now moved back in to Marketing, leading a great team who are focused on the customer and developing propositions that respond to needs across all our markets. I still have my hand in the Products area, developing our Products Profession and driving to a consistent and high standard of product management.
The Met Office enables the delivery of it's scientific excellence through a portfolio of products created to meet customer need, whilst providing a return to the organisation for further investment. Our products are constantly reviewed and refreshed by my team of Product Managers, ensuring the portfolio is fit for purpose, meeting new and emerging needs - and enabling the Met Office to be recognised as the global partner of choice for weather and climate services.
A complex but interesting role as I led a team of multi disciplined professionals such as Marketing Managers, Market Researchers, Business Managers, Market Analysts, Customer Relationship Managers and CRM IT specialists. My team provided services into the Transport, Media and Consulting commercial programmes of the Met Office. As well as leading the team, I set the CRM policy and implementation across the Met Office, bringing together expertise from the Business, IT and Finance. I was also responsible for developing the Met Office pricing policy including the organisational guidance for adhering to the Competition Act and the Enterprise Act. One of my proudest achievements in this role was developing a Business profession skills framework that set out the skills required for each type of Sales & Marketing post, examples of how to develop those skills; and career progression roadmaps.
As Senior Marketing Manager, I was responsible for overseeing development of long term marketing and product plans across a number of different industry sectors. This included managing the prioritisation of marketing research activities, overseeing the delivery of profitable products and day to day liaison with supplier sections. This was a particularly satisfying role as I was able to recruit some great Marketing Managers and develop them along their career paths.
