Ambitious and career-driven, Chen Hui Ken is a dedicated and accomplished litigator with years of experience in the legal field. He obtained his LLB (Hons) from the University of Reading before getting called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Middle Temple in November 2018. Hui Ken went on to complete his statutory pupillage at Messrs Shearn Delamore & Co., where he honed his legal skills as well as gained extensive experience in various legal domains. He was subsequently admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in November 2019 and was further admitted as an Australian Lawyer at the Supreme Court of Victoria in April 2025. Specialising in Civil Litigation, Ken’s expertise spans Commercial and Transactional Law, Construction Disputes, Corporate Insolvency, Employment and Labour Law. He is currently serving as a Senior Associate at Messrs Zaid Ibrahim & Co., where he brings over seven years of litigation experience, delivering strategic and client-focused legal solutions.
In my capacity as a Senior Associate, my role involves managing a diverse portfolio of complex, high-value cases, with a specific focus on: - Civil Litigation: Representing government bodies, corporate and private clients, from interlocutory applications to final trials and appeals with primacy focus on General Litigation. -International Arbitration: Acting as counsel in cross-border disputes under major institutional rules (such as AIAC, SIAC, and ICC), providing strategic guidance on jurisdictional challenges and the enforcement of foreign awards. - Cross-Border Matters: Coordinating with the ZICO Law network and international co-counsel to navigate conflict of laws, handle multi-party disputes, and protect client interests across various global regulatory frameworks.
- Lead and manage all phases of civil litigation cases, including case strategy, discovery, motions, trials, and appeals. - Acted as external counsels for several firms in handling civil litigation matters from lower courts all the way to appeals at the appellate courts. - Represent clients in court hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations. - Conduct thorough legal research and draft pleadings and other legal documents. - Provide expert legal counsel to clients, advising on risks, case strategies, and potential outcomes. Selected experiences include: o Acted as co-counsel for a construction company to resist a RM60 million claim for misappropriation of assets and breach of director fiduciary duties o Acted as co-counsel for a shareholder in commencing a Minority’s Oppression suit against majority shareholders in a multi-million Ringgit construction company o Successfully obtaining a Mareva Injunction Order to freeze numerous banking accounts belonging to a multi-million Ringgit construction company o Successfully struck out a RM3 million defamatory suit commenced against a former director of a healthcare company
o Primarily focusing on high-profile civil and commercial disputes including other contentious matters such as employment, tortious and property disputes; o Involved in numerous criminal cases mainly on white-collar crimes as the defense attorney; o Conducted and assisted numerous trials and interlocutory proceedings up to the Appellate Courts; o Drafting and reviewing commercial and corporate agreements for construction projects.
