Buyer and Product Developer for URBANARA, a high quality e-commerce homeware brand operating in the DACH and British markets. I managed the Storage, Kitchen accessories, Tableware, Bathroom accessories, Home accessories and Kids categories. I was responsible for collection selection and procurement strategies within these categories, the identification of potential new or existing manufacturers/suppliers and all negotiations with them. I cooperated daily with the creative team in order to balance the creative aspect of the product with our economic objectives as well as all other departments to achieve company goals. I was also responsible for seasonal category analysis, competitor/trend analysis and mood-boarding within my categories, marketing/promotion strategy, P&L management, initial stock ordering and logistics. We regularly visited trade fairs around Europe to network and seek new suppliers and I have been personally responsible for implementing many of the processes that are used daily by the Product Development team including a new PIM tool.
I supported the Senior Buyer in the management of all 'Living' categories including Rugs and Blankets which are both among our highest revenue driving categories. I was given responsibility for Cushions, Lighting and Storage very quickly and managed the buying process for these categories independently. A particular highlight during my time as a Junior was the management of a high value Storage Basket and Home Accessories resource project in Asia from the initial conceptualising of the collections, sampling, ordering, QC and logistical management of the containers loads.
I was able to take on responsibilities such as visual merchandising, money mapping, understanding commercial paperwork received from head office and opening and closing for business. I frequently achieved the store’s highest weekly sales. I was put in charge of visual merchandising for my store, which meant that it became my responsibility to decide where all new lines were placed, in line with profile guidelines, to achieve the best sales. Within this role I attended ‘model store’ on behalf of my store which meant I met with representatives from all other stores in the country as well as Head Office to decide how the shop would be laid out and which new product lines would feature in the new season to maximise revenue.
