Led the development of a sustainable agri-business model with an integrated outgrower and outsourcing system that enabled 45,000 smallholder farmers (30,000 nuts + 15,000 mango) in Kenya to increase farm yields and have increased access to export markets, with over 30% increase in profit margins and incomes. Worked with the teams to recalibrate and strengthen inclusive value chains for macadamia, mango, pineapple and cashewnuts, establishing 45 market off-take centres across Kenya and enabling farmers to receive prompt payments through use of integrated bluetooth-enabled weighing scales and payment systems. Led the successful research and trialisation of the use of biochar derived from nut-waste, as a soil amendment, to improve soil quality for smallholder farmers in Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Lamu, Taita Taveta and Tana River Counties. Successfully set up the Grow Fairly Foundation as a marketing avenue for 5,000 smallholder farmers in the Kenyan coast to access carbon credit markets.
