I’m a innovative,detail focused, versatile, enthusiastic and driven Designer from South Africa. My Background in Fashion Design is facilitated by CTCFD and City&Guilds London Fashion School as well as working for South African's leading manufacturer for 4 years within the Woolworths Department, starting with the Modern account and working my way up to the Premium/ David Jones/ W.Collection account, in the process gaining a holistic understanding of product development, sourcing, communication and Merchandising principles. I have a passion for recognising and adapting to local and global trends. I am always eager to develop my skills and take on a challenge in this ever-changing industry.
Responsibilities: Product Development – developing product for the coming season being mindful of the customer, trend, product history, manufacturing friendly and price point. Trend Research/Analysis - studying future trends, doing customer and competitor research and anticipating designs that will appeal to the consumer and range while finding a successful and cost effective interpretion. Design Presentation – Presenting product developments and trends for the upcoming season internally and externally. This includes actual product relating to trends, product newness, building on previous product successes, strategy for the future and key looks/trends for the season. Tech Packs (CADS) - Actioning Tech packs received by the customer. Compiling internal Tech Packs to clearly communicated the design through technical sketches including styling, measurements, fabrics, trims. Sourcing - responsible for fabric sourcing. Networking with local and international suppliers. Visiting trade shows to find newness on fabrics, trims, print, washes, finishes. Prints - Handling all strike off and lab dye submissions with relevant printers/mills. Making markers for production (i.e. engineered/placement /embroidery) Day-to-Day – liaising with the various members of the team especially the Merchandiser and Technologist as well as pattern makers, graders, raters, labour, cutters and machinists. Achieve deadlines by being aware of the Merchandise and Production cycle and using this to ensure that we process briefs timelessly to achieve critical path. Being the company’s representative to customer regarding product development, briefing and design queries. Fitting Process / QA – Being present in fittings, providing feedback in all fitting stages from concept to seals by having a good technical understanding of patterns, fabrics and garment construction. Pre-Production Meetings - Assisting in sample discussions by identifying, recommending and resolving quality risks.
