As a self-taught computer guy, it’s my personal final frontier to become a software developer. Over the years, I’ve learned to build my own computers, provide tech support for family and friends, and even created a website for a tortilla company. I am pivoting into this career field to expand my horizons as a technologist and to advance my future prospects.
Interacting with customers in a retail environment and managing employees. Other duties include maintaining financial records and providing technical support.
Designed static and animated ads for the local news website using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Flash. Worked with the Ad Manager to assure client satisfaction.
Designed pages, including Metro, Business, and Features sections. Learned industry practices and balanced content and design issues under deadlines. Wrote for the “Tech Blog” and “Geek Watch Blog” on http://www.detnews.com.
Oversaw design and content departments of the newspaper. Upgraded and maintained the newspaper’s computers and network. Wrote articles, shot video clips and maintained the “Off the Tech” technology column. Also served as Design and Production Editor and Technology Manager.
Supervised the design of The Voice newspaper. Maintained the newspaper’s computers and website. Managed and trained reporters in writing news and features for the science and technology section. Also served as Online Editor and Science and Technology Editor. Later returned as a consultant and provided support and training for new staff members.
Assisted Student Activities staff with computer projects and technical support. Created and managed a Microsoft Access database to record extracurricular activities for students. Answered phone calls and walk-in questions and kept records updated.
