I have 17 years experience in the computer industry with the last 6 years working within the software QA roles. As a software QA engineer I have become highly skilled within the performance testing and functional test automation areas. I am highly skilled in WinRunner, QuickTest Pro, LoadRunner, WatiN, VSTS 2008/2010, and Microsoft's UI Automation classes. In addition to the commercial and open source tools mentioned above I have also written several custom UI automation tools from the Microsoft UI Automation classes and Windows API. I have created custom harnesses using Windows Forms that allow manual testers to document their manual test cases utilizing a standard, controlled, documentation pattern that allows simultaneous automation of those test cases. I have also written custom performance testing solutions using SQL Server, .NET, XML, and Windows Forms for several clients such as Fingerhut, Ecolab, and Rels. My custom solutions have performance tested Windows services, web services, email messaging, BizTalk messaging, and stubbed out features of a system within test that were present in production but not feasible to implement within test. At this point in my career I have two goals. First, to spread the advanced knowledge I have been fortunate to obtain with respect to test automation and performance testing to anyone who wants to learn. Second, to find the most challenging test automation and performance testing problems and architect creative solutions to solve them. I have started a new company specializing in the above 2 goals. I would like to see the costs associated with test automation significanlty drop, have fewer business relying on expensive commercial tools, and offer better support for open source/freely available automation technologies than what business currently experience with commercial solutions.
