During the first year of my undergraduate studies as a Journalism student, I began to engage with theological work through independent study which provided me with a more historically informed and contextually literate approach to religious studies. I was able to pursue these interests in a limited way within my initial degree by interviewing popular Christian apologists like Lee Strobel in a journalistic context. Ultimately, my appetite for full-time, academic theological study led me to transfer to Calvin College to pursue a degree in Religion. Calvin’s connection to philosophers like Alvin Plantinga and Nicholas Wolterstorff was one of the major factors influencing my decision to transfer, and engaging with their work convinced me that the convergence of theology and philosophy is one of the most exciting junctures for apologists to work at. As a result of this change in my thinking, I founded the college’s Apologetics Club of which I served as President. During the semester I spent at Wycliffe Hall in Oxford studying philosophical theology, I interacted with academics whose instruction and research encouraged me to attend a graduate school with a pronounced philosophical dimension to its theological teaching. In 2019-2020 I attended the University of St. Andrews and received an MLitt in Analytic and Exegetical Theology. My thesis, titled, "Terms of Atonement: The Language of Salvation in Anselm of Canterbury and Athanasius of Alexandria" was written under the advisement of philosopher and theologian Oliver Crisp. I now have the honor and privilege of teaching high school humanities courses at Redeemer Classical Academy. This allows me to work for a community in which I might engage with academia and the pressing questions students and young adults often have, specifically those concerning the hope and aims of the Christian faith.
I teach literature, theology, and history courses for the rhetoric school (9th-12th grade). I also teach rhetoric and senior thesis.
