As GE Advisor to the Climate Action Africa project, provide technical guidance on integrating gender-responsiveness and social inclusion in climate governance, adaptation, mitigation, and women/youth climate leadership initiatives with governments and non-governmental organizations across Sub-Saharan Africa. Support business development from a gender equality/social inclusion perspective, including Lake Chad Basin (wetland restoration), Mongolia's ECCO-FARM (climate adaptation), One Health project, GROH (Ethiopia), and others. Panellist at the International Gender and Climate Change Conference, Ulaanbaatar, May 2025, ahead of UNCCD COP17.
Provided technical support (remote) to the project, Strengthening Climate Resilience of Agricultural Livelihoods in Agro-Ecological Regions I and II in Zambia (SCRALA).
Developed Capacity Development Strategy and Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Strategy for the Support Programme on Scaling up Climate Ambition on Land-use and Agriculture through NDCs and NAPs (SCALA).
Undertook assessment of enabling environment, government/stakeholder institutional capacity, and IFAD portfolio performance in 15 countries in E. and Southern Africa, W. and Central Africa, and Asia to support Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation planning grant on gender-transformative financing mechanism for scaling up. Project funded in countries recommended in my assessment - Burkina Faso and India (and now Ethiopia which I also recommended). See website for mechanism that emerged:
- Co-designed, tested, co-authored a flagship training package on Gender and Adaptation Planning for the Agriculture Sectors. - Contributed to the development of a tool on gender-responsive climate-resilient value chains (VC) and tested in Zambia and Uganda; - Undertook analyses, prepared gender action plans for Green Climate Fund (GCF), Adaptation Fund financing (e.g. Malawi, Liberia, Asia Pacific Region (persons with disabilities & climate change resilience), Thailand, Sudan). - Contributed gender equality content to Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on National Adaptation Plans: Building Climate Resilience in Agriculture. - Co-wrote briefing note on gender and adaptation in agriculture and case studies (Uganda, Uruguay, Zambia). - Contributed to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) submissions. - Supported Nepal on strengthening Risk Assessment and Adaptation Planning exercise; backstopped gender issues in the NAP-Ag Programme (e.g. Zambia, Uganda, Nepal, Philippines, etc.). - Contributed to NAP-Ag yearly planning and reporting cycles; co-organized webinar on gender and adaptation with speakers from different regions.
