I am a culturally diverse and inclusive children's book, author of the Dolly May and the Magical Enchanted Garden story and Publisher of Dolly May and Mally's Alphabet Game. Pioneering the Representation of African Caribbean & Dual Heritage children in Literature. Also, the creator of CMN Magical Books Ltd, books we would all like to read as children!! My Dolly May book series captivates children’s imagination whilst providing cultural diversity in an enchanting way. So, you can give children a healthy cultural experiences. I believe children and young people should be represented in the books they read and empowered to pursue their dreams and transform their lives. I spent my early childhood growing up in the beautiful countryside of Mount Olive, Ginger Ridge, on the Island of Jamaica, now living in Manchester, UK. As a child, I grew up with a love of reading books and writing, introduced by an aunt who was a teacher. However, growing up and later, when I became a mother, I struggled to find books with characters that looked like me and my children. This inspired me to write a children’s book with culturally diverse characters that are well-developed and authentically portrayed. My literary work is fun, educational and inspirational, which brings culturally diverse stories and history to the schools, children, their parents, and the community in a new, refreshing and uplifting way. I believe my literacy work makes a significant contribution to literacy as an individual. Dolly May and the Magical Enchanted Garden book series is enabling children to step into a new reality and journey into a world of self-discovery. A world in which they can see themselves represented in their favourite stories and inspire them to dream big. Children deserve the right to access quality literature that honours, values, and reflects the reality in which they live, which also offers perspectives on lives beyond their own. Experiences/Skills: Writer and publisher: Plan, organise and deliver reading/ writing workshops to schools and community events. Acquisition of transferable skills includes Prince2 Foundation Project Management Practitioner, leadership, teamworking, problem-solving, and public speaking engagements. Mentored and coached students and pupils as a Community Specialist Practitioner in School Health, including ENB 998 Teaching and Assessor. Volunteered as a Board of Director for the Voice of BME-T, to provide access to educational opportunities and business support. I raised funds for research for the community to access the services.
Children's Book Synopsis: Dolly May and the Magical Enchanted Garden Dolly May is an inquisitive and bright little girl. She lives at the top of Mount Olive, in the beautiful Island of Jamaica, with her Grandma Majji. Dolly and her friends love to play in Grandma Majji’s mystical garden. Grandma Majji has the best games, and with her help, she encourages them to dream big and achieve all that they can desire. Through teaching them about positive role models of the past, she shows them they, too, can become anything they want to be, from a deep-sea diver to an astronaut. There’s no limit to their imagination!
Achieved success in major areas of personal life and work. Author of 2 children's book and publisher of one. I successfully acquired 2 Batchelor degrees including teaching and assessing of students, as well as, Certificate in Prince 2 Project Management Practitioner. Leadership experience in developing and implementing services whilst working in Clinical Practice with the NHS and as a volunteer Director on the VOICE of BME. Experienced in team working, Personal development Coaching and Mentoring and public engagement speaking.
