I am an experienced teacher of English Language & Literature, Primary Education and 11+ provision including Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning, English and Maths. I currently teach GCSE English Language at Reading College, where I work with a large number of students to prepare them for their exams and teach transferable skills within the context of English. I am passionate about my role and love seeing progress made, both academically and pastorally. Within this role, I also teach online tutoring sessions for students across all Activate Learning campuses and I mentored a trainee teacher undertaking Activate Learning's Level 5 Teaching Apprenticeship qualification. Additionally, I run my own tutoring business, teaching Secondary English online and in-person. I am also a CPCAB qualified Therapeutic Counsellor. I am trained integratively with Person-Centred and Psychodynamic approaches and utilise a variety of interventions in my work with clients, maintaining professional standards through membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am working towards obtaining a Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy with a foundation in Transactional Analysis and I am passionate about supporting both young people and adults. I also teach adult learners on the CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, having previously taught on the Level 2 & 3 Counselling Skills & Studies programmes. I love counselling teaching and found it so inspirational when I first started on my own counselling journey. In addition to this, I am a Mental Health First Aider and Wellbeing Ally, supporting staff and students at Reading College and I currently counsel students at The University of Reading on a weekly basis, attending ongoing supervision in my practice there. Prior to gaining my PGCE in Primary Education from the University of Southampton (after which, I taught in schools for a number of years), I obtained a First Class Honours Degree in English Literature with Creative Writing from the University of Surrey after previously working for 3M UK PLC, first as a Receptionist and Switchboard Operator, then as Administrator for a large team where I was provided with opportunities to learn about business and develop skills in communication and organisation.
