Independent Research Projects -Parent and Child Discrepancies: This project focuses on characterizing parent-child discrepancies in self-report ratings of perceived illness symptomatology and levels of disability in children and adolescents with myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). -PEM Questionnaire: This project aims to gain a detailed understanding of patient’s experience of post-exertional malaise (PEM), a cardinal symptom of ME/CFS, through a newly developed patient-driven questionnaire. Responsibilities and Duties -Budgetary duties: create budgets, projections, reconciles Mobius reports, tracks all receipts and notes when associated charges are included in financial reports, creates requisitions, submits invoices and parking voucher requests to accounts payable for payment, submits purchasing requests for supplies, requests cash advances for participant payments and processes related paperwork, completes and submits employee reimbursement forms -IRB duties: acts as main contact for IRB protocols for both DePaul University and Lurie Children’s Hospital, keeps staff and volunteer certifications updated, submits amendments/modifications/applications, submits continuing reviews, and completes incident reports as needed -Provides participants with informed consent prior to physical exam and psychiatric screener -Administers the Schedule of Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia Present and Lifetime Version 4 (K-SADS-PL) to participants and writes summary report for physician review -Prepare manuscripts for publication -Present findings at weekly research meetings and at professional conferences -Mentor undergraduate honors student projects -Assists with scanning/archiving of patient documents and various data entry projects
-Complete senior honors research project as a $10 hr/wk paid research assistant in the Undergraduate Research Assistantship Program (URAP) -Research investigates parent-child discrepancies in perception of health and functioning in a community sample of children with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome symptoms -Data management in Excel and SPSS, data analysis, and conference presentation preparation
-Conducted phone based recruitment interviews to screen for CFS-like symptoms in children in the Chicagoland area -Observed administration of the Schedule of Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia Present and Lifetime Version 4 (K-SADS-PL) with children and parents in a hospital setting -Data entry in Excel and RedCap software (an online database) -Received mentoring and implement data management in Excel and SPSS, data analysis, and conference presentation preparation
- Completed a 36-hour online training module in order to become proficient in active listening, risk assessment, de-escalating diverse crisis situations, providing appropriate referrals, and collaboratively developing self-care plans - De-escalates crises by utilizing active listening techniques, collaboratively identifying coping skills, and offering referrals to local and online resources - Conducts risk assessments and works with supervisors to initiate active rescues when a texter is at imminent risk for suicide - Serves as a mandated reporter and supplies supervisors with relevant information in instances of child abuse and/or neglect
