I have a PhD in musicology from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). I specialized in musical heritage and archiving. My thesis focuses on the history of the music chapel of Santa María del Pi in Barcelona between 1700 and 1936 and the study of the standard of living of its musicians comparing their income through time with macroeconomic data in different periods. Since 2016 I have collaborated in the cataloging of musical collections for the IFMuC (UAB) project directed by professor Dr. Josep Maria Gregori. I have special interest in OMR and HTR technology, a field I am working on presently at the Computer Vision Center at UAB, and I have taught musical heritage and history of music at pre-graduate level.. Before starting research, I taught music for more than 15 years and played as a drummer in dfferent bands of a wide range of musical genres. Currently I am still active as a musician, being part of different bands in the genre of rock and metal. In 2017 I published with Ficta Edicions a critical edition of the music of the composer Pau Llinàs, chapel master who served between 1711 and 1749 in Santa María del Pi. The publication, in addition to a critical study, contains a transcription of the 6-voice Mass and the 5-voice Magnificat, both composed by him during that period.
Professor of Musical Heritage and Digital Humanities Applied to Musicological Research.
I have been part of several bands of different styles. I have played blues with Pepe Gómez and Jose Luis Pardo, pop in La Caixa Fosca, Puntos Suspensivos and Berlin21, Catalan rumba with Trikitown, rock with Head Injury, Cataplàusia and Mozog and trash metal with Barbarian. Simultaneously I have participated in different projects and tribute bands such as Dr. Crüe (Motley Crüe), The Bonn Scott Band (AC/DC), Riot Act (Pearl Jam), On the Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne), Smoking Stones (Rolling Stones), Removida (80s Spanish pop) and Black Rose (Thin Lizzy). Nowadays I play drums for Radio75 (alternative rock) and Distant Silhouettes (prog-groove metal)
The main objective of this project focuses on the synthetic generation of musical staves through AI that meet three basic criteria to serve as training data of AI models for recognizing music scores: 1. A coherent internal musical structure (within the musical staff itself). 2. Several manually predefined characteristics like note variability and complexity (frequency or propor-tion of crotchets, quavers, semiquavers, etc), tonality and mode, key and time signatures, number of bars, etc. 3. A realistic appearance, comparable to historical musical manuscripts. With the aim of defining the period according to the terms outlined in the hypothesis, I propose a broad but precise period spanning from 1750 to 1950. From these, a secondary and previous objective arises, i.e., the creation of a corpus of real music, by Catalan authors, dating from 1750 to 1950 to train the OMR system. This music will need to be tran-scribed with score editing software and the original images will have to be aligned.
Project name: Document intelligence in Low Resources Scenarios (DoLoReS) Coordination of an 8-person team of music transcribers and annotators. Responsible for annotating encrypted handwritten documents and musical scores, collaborating with the algorithm design team for deep learning, and contributing to the development of validation software.
With a full-time scholarship from the Generalitat of Catalunya (FI-2018), I developed my doctoral thesis around the music chapel of Santa Maria del Pi in Barcelona (1700-1936) with particular attention to the economic aspects of chapel musicians life. At the same time, I carried out teaching tasks related to the transcription of musical incipits to Plane and Easy Code.
Professor on "Musical Heritage", a subject in which students are introduced to the "Inventari dels Fons Musicals de Catalunya" (IFMuc), a project at the UAB. The project focuses on the cataloging of musical documentary collections, especially ecclesiastical though not exclusively, and the creation of a public accessible database and catalog.
After working on several private music schools, on 2011 I started my own private teaching studio.
