About

Carla Freire has been a Professor in the School of Education and Social Sciences, Polytechnic Institute of Leiria since 2005 in Accessible Communication, Multimedia, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) applied to EducatioN, Communication and Research Methodologies. She coordinated the master's degree in Accessible Communication from 2014 to 2023 and currently constitutes the scientific-pedagogical commission of this course. Carla holds: a PhD in Multimedia Engineering at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain, with the thesis: Introdução de ferramentas multimédia num contexto de terapia: Estudo exploratório aplicado à terapia de pacientes esquizofrénicos (Introduction of multimedia tools in therapy settings: Exploratory study applied to schizophrenic patients therapy ); postgraduate studies in Audio description at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais (PUC Minas, Brazil; postgraduate studies in Educational Communication and Digital Media at Universidade Aberta, Portugal; degree in New Communication Technologies at Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal. She is a member of the Design and Arts Research Lab. She has accessibility and inclusion as her major research interests, as well as ICT and multimedia in education and communication fields and intervention in the community using technologies and arts. She has been publishing articles in specialised journals and chapter(s) of books, reviewing papers submitted to scientific journals, integrating organisational and scientific committees in events, supervising master's theses, and participating in academic juries
