The charity Teach First is a powerful movement founded to directly address the problem of educational disadvantage. Founded in 2002, Teach First has already changed the lives of thousands of young people. Teach First harnesses the energy, enthusiasm and drive of exceptional graduates to provide leadership, motivation and, above all, inspirational teaching in schools in challenging circumstances across England."
- Mentored Young People and Young Offenders in secure accommodation with behavioural difficulties and difficult life experiences. - Led group work on personal and social issues, self esteem and team building exercises, and critical thinking skills, one of which was graded Outstanding in April 2012 OFSTED inspection. - Led and coordinated enriched activity sessions, including Chess and Tennis lessons, coaching in creative writing, extra curricular reading. - Trained in Diffusion Techniques, Physical Control and Restraint, Restorative Justice, and Health and Safety. - Safeguarding, discipline and reward procedures, and on-going well-being management.
- Organised and ran the biggest student run Teaching Awards in the country, raising total votes from 2,800 in 2010 to 5, 200 in 2011, candidates from 440 to 780. - Used quantitative and qualitative data from this exercise to create reports highlighting areas of service user-perceived strength and weakness within University departments. - Identified key external stakeholders and fostered relationships to improve collaboration and efficiency, and performed targeted communications and promotional campaigns to raise general awareness. - Organised UoE’s ‘Inspiring Teaching Conference’ raising attendance by 50% on the previous year.
- Co-founded vocational and educational NGO from scratch in Kampala. - SPOWE-Uganda won the 2010 Big Life Group’s charity of the year award. - Developed constitution, mission statement, established contacts, and embedded with organisations such as the Red Cross. - Produced training materials for staff and helped develop job descriptions and internal accountability guidelines. Produced official documentation such as volunteer application forms, field report documents etc. Co-produced constitution, business plan and spending guidelines. - Organised 4 day school seminar to work as a template for future seminar events, which are on-going successfully. - Walked 1500 miles from Glastonbury to the south coast of Spain to fundraise a total of £3000. - Acted as Trustee and support and coordinate the activities of fundraising volunteers.
