Always facinated by how engineering changes the quality of life of people, especially machines that allow us to work, play and travel in our own comfort. As a Mechanical engineer, I apply engineering principles to design and integrate techonogies together to optimise energy use. Some of the projects that I am/was involved in are: - Managing high pressure pipeline diversion project - Defining the Goal and Scope of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of a small plant by draw out the process flow in the identified boundary to ultimately determine the harmful carbon emissions generated from it. - Conducting feasibility study, estimating Annual Energy Production (AEP) and sourcing of suitable Wind Turbines from manufacturers for renewable energy project, as well as coordinating meeting with suppliers to discuss about technical issues. - Assisting in Refinery plant shutdown/turnarounds during university internship.
My main project was to improve a handbook of a critical repair that requires many level of authorization due to the risk and the total duration involved. I had to used the handbook of the same repair from other business units to recommend the best methods to ensure safety and good accountability to track each step of the repair. Other activities that I was involved in was to assist my supervisor in plant shutdowns and turnarounds and the updating of the Risk Assessment for one of the repair job.
I was doing my final year project with Pratt & Whitney and I was given 2 projects. The first project requires me to refer to the handbook from different business units and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) website to find the best practices for all the clauses that were in the handbook and to recommend those for the employee handbook for a new business unit. The second project involved using value stream mapping to help reduce the hiring process time for the HR Department.
