Research project sponsored by AIRBUS for the design and implementation of aircraft door seal analysis methodology and PhD opportunity at the University of the German Armed Forces Munich: ― Capture the status quo regarding aircraft door kinematics and current seal and fuselage interface design. ― Performance of tensile, quasi-static, dynamic and relaxation tests to determine the material properties of elastomers in relation to the constitutive laws. ― Calculation of 2D and 3D models with SIMULIA ABAQUS of seal cross-sections taking into account the non-linear material behaviour of elastomers, such as: hyperelasticity, viscoelasticity, thermal strain, glass transition temperature and Mullins effect. ― Sensitivity analysis performed with multiple seal designs considering the influence of cabin deformation, contact stress, flight mission, differential pressure and temperature variations in terms of performance against air leakage and cabin noise. ― Multi-parametric optimisation of material properties and design dimensions based on genetic algorithms and design of experiments using SIMULIA iSight. ― Weekly meetings with Focal Point of AIRBUS to support product development and every 4 months result delivery through presentations. ― Academic tasks: participate in conferences, publish papers and conduct practical experiments with students.
