See www.bruce-douglass.com for papers, presentations, models, engineering forums, and more. I am widely regarded as the leading expert of the application of UML/SysML modeling to the development of real-time and embedded systems and am a coauthor of the UML and SysML standards. I am the author of hundreds of articles and white papers, the Harmony Process for Embedded Real-Time Development, and several books and have consulted in many industries (especially aerospace, defense, automotive, medical, transportation, and industrial) provided mentoring, training, and consulting in systems engineering and embedded software development. I’ve presented the popular Bruce Douglass track at the largest embedded systems conference in the world, Embedded World, for the past 16 years. I do detailed R&D Engineering Capability Assessment and Improvement consulting world-wide. Deep Skills include • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) • Embedded Software Development • Model-Driven Software Development (MDD) • Agile methods for MBSE and MDD • UML • SysML • DoDAF / UPDM / UAF • Systems architecture • Safety Critical Systems analysis and design • Safety standards: DO-178, ISO 26262, IEC 61508 • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) • Requirements specification • Engineering processes • Simulation • Digital Thread • IoT • Process assessment and improvement • Neural Networks Books include: • Harmony aMBSE Deskbook (2017) • Agile Systems Engineering (2015) • Real Time UML Workshop for Embedded Systems 2nd edition (2014) • Design Patterns for Embedded C (2010) • Real-Time Agility (2009) • Real-Time UML Workshop for Embedded Systems (2006) • Real-Time UML 3rd Edition (2004) • Real-Time Design Patterns (2002) • Doing Hard Time (1999) • Using Turbo and IBM Pascal (1986) • Applications Programming in IBM Basic (1985) • Numerical Basic (1982)
Created technical content for training and consulting for many companies to enhance their engineering capabilities using SysML and UML, including Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, AVIC, General Dynamic, Motorola, Draper Labs, the US Navy, the US Air Force, and others. Consulted to many companies to improve their capability or to produce specific products in a timely and high-quality fashion. Collaborated to develop UML, SysML, and other industry standards. • Collaborated with others to produce the UML and SysML standards, in addition to other standards such as the UML Profile for Schedulability, Performance and Time. • Worked with several different key aerospace companies to improve their adoption of and skill with model-based methods (MBSE and MDD) • Developed the UML Dependability Profile for modeling and analyzing safety, reliability, and security for systems and embedded software. • Developed the Harmony Process for Embedded Software Development and the Harmony Agile Model-Based Systems Engineering (aMBSE) • Worked with several divisions of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) to introduce MBSE and MDD in their development projects. • Consulted with well-known automotive manufacturer on improving their development processes, streamlining their 24 month process to fewer than 18 months with significant decreases in defect rates • Renown speaker at many dozens of conferences; the largest of these, the Embedded World Conference in Nuremberg, has had a Bruce Douglass track for the last decade.
I contributed to a number of standards including the UML, UML Profile for Schedulability, Performance, and Time, and SysML. I also co-chaired the Real-Time Analysis and Design Working Group.
Contributed to a number of OMG standrds including UML, UML Profile for Schedulabilty, Performance and Time, and SysML.
I developed the Harmony process for embedded software and contributed the the Harmony process for systems engineering. I consulted to hundreds of companies in the real-time and embedded space wanting to improve their development effectiveness and process efficiency. I focused primarily on the practice of model-based development in the industries of aerospace, defense, medical, transportation, industrial automation, telecom, and consumer electronics. I also spoke at many conferences, such as Embedded World, Embedded Systems, and Software Development. I wrote dozens of articles and white papers and several books, incuding "Doing Hard Time", "Real-Time UML", "Real-Time Design Patterns", "Real-Time UML Workshop for Embedded Systems" and "Real-Time Agility".
