‘A new type of employee is needed in times of flat hierarchies in organizations and uncertain, dynamic, highly competitive business environments. This ‘new employee’ should engage in self-started, future-oriented behavior without the need for constant supervision and instructions by others. Employees do not just let life happen to them. Rather, they try to affect, shape, curtail, expand, and temper what happens in their lives’. Grant and Ashford
