As Assistant State Design Standards Engineer, I assist with directing significant departmentwide projects related to standards development for use on state improvement projects. I am responsible for assisting in the creation, development, revision, monitoring, and interpretation, of design standards for the preparation of plans for the construction of highways and other transportation modes. My duties include review and publishing of MnDOT’s manuals (Facility Design Guide, Road Design, Technical, Standard Plans, and Standard Plates) and Technical Memoranda. My work also includes: providing solutions to problems encountered by design, maintenance, and construction personnel within MnDOT, counties, cities, and consulting engineering companies; research activities including literature searches on subjects related to highway design and assisting districts/division on monitoring performance of field experiments; and assistance in evaluating the crash-worthiness of barriers and other traffic control devices. Managed complex projects of up to a quarter million dollar design fee, coordinating project staff across the Midwest. Assisted with interviewing and mentoring new engineering staff. Provided technical guidance to colleagues. Conducted advanced corridor modeling techniques and complex drainage and grading design tasks. At CDM Smith I performed a mix of transportation planning, analysis, and design tasks. I prepared conceptual design exhibits for neighborhood traffic calming and roundabouts. I conducted counts and performed parking and traffic flow studies and analyses. I helped organize and present study findings and conclusions at public meetings. I conducted technical analyses in support of long-range planning and transit ridership forecasting for CTDOT. I assisted with GIS analyses. Lastly, I helped collect field measurements and observations, including for driveway sight distance analysis.
