About

I have been lucky enough to work on and lead teams through some exciting and high profile engineering projects such as worlds first team betting site at my startup BragBet, Great Northern Haven at CASALA a finalist for Irish engineering project of the year and the worlds first face recognition border passport control at Sydney airport. I’m driven by creating innovative solutions to complex problems and am as comfortable coding, as facilitating brainstorming sessions, to delivering on a plan. The tools I like to use to create these solutions include; Lean & Agile development, Business analysis, Full stack web development, Mobile app development, Machine Learning / Pattern recognition / Signal Processing, Metric setting and analysis.

Experience

  • VP, Data & Document Intelligence at Nitro, Inc.
    May 2021 - Present · 5 yrs 2 mos

Thrilled to be starting at Nitro!

  • Site Lead at SleepScore Labs
    Apr 2018 - Apr 2021 · 3 yrs 1 mo

At SleepScore we are on a mission to improve peoples health and wellbeing by improving the quality of their sleep. We do this by monitoring your sleep using our novel sonar app on your phone, understanding what is causing sleep issues and figuring out personalised solutions to improve it. As well as establishing and looking after the Irish office, which looks after much of the engineering automation within the company, I lead the data engineering and data science within the company. The big challenge here is to decode sleep and the many factors that influence it, we have built a database of 70M hours of sleep to help us do this. This involves warehousing this diverse data, analysing it for patterns and influences and understanding which negative behaviours need improving as well as which products will assist. We have built these solutions across a number of cloud services including; Azure Cloud Services, Azure Functions, SQL server, Azure Table storage, Google Analytics, Amplitude, Shopify, Azure Data Factory, Python, Jupyter, PowerBI

At Creme Global I manage a team of talented software engineers in an Agile environment, with specialities from Front End (AngularJS), Back End (Python / Django), through to high performance statistical model development. We develop data science products to help large companies make data driven decisions, for anything from the safety of their food to the health impact of their products. The impact of our solutions is likely to have reached you through their products. Being a medium sized company, I am very involved with many other parts of the business, from product design, customer engagement, proposal writing, through marketing, to defining and driving internal metrics for data driven decision making.

  • Founder and CTO at BragBet
    Aug 2010 - Nov 2014 · 4 yrs 4 mos

I founded BragBet in 2010 at a StartUp weekend, creating a product from a game I played offline with friends. Building the team from there to a diverse group of 14 people. With this team we built an engaging social network product and got thousands of people playing online. I managed the building of our products, our core responsive site and API and our native mobile apps (iOS / Andriod / Windows Phone), but was involved at every level of decision making from managing the business through to setting and measuring metrics.

  • Principal Investigator at CASALA
    Oct 2009 - Sep 2013 · 4 yrs

At CASALA I lead a R&D team of 8 that conducted ambient assisted living research. Using behaviour analysis with machine learning on sensor data to try to better understand people as they age with the goal of trying to spot early signs of decline and intervene. Our major tool to gather this data was 16 homes with over 2000 sensors, which gave a broad, deep and longitudinal dataset, this project was a finalist for Irelands Engineering project of the year. I also secured 330k in funding to develop a commercial Internet Of Things and education platform to look after people in their homes as they aged called CARAwellness. Matlab, Groovy / Grails, JavaScript, jQuery, MySQL, Processing. Managed developers using: Ruby on Rails, Objective-C
