Brian develops innovative solutions to complex state and local tax issues for companies in numerous sectors, including oil and gas, utilities and energy; retail; manufacturing; financial services; software and technology; transportation; and telecommunications. He has extensive experience with sales and use taxes, severance taxes, income and franchise taxes, gross receipts taxes, telecommunications and utility taxes, fuels taxes, federal excise taxes, credits and incentives, and local taxes. He also has significant experience with abandoned and unclaimed property issues. His experience also includes sophisticated transaction planning, refund reviews, compliance and audit defense, and administrative protests, hearings, and appeals. He has written and lectured frequently on state and local tax and unclaimed property issues. He is author of "From a Practitioner's Desk", a column appearing in State Tax Notes. He has appeared as a speaker for the following organizations: Council on State Taxation; Tax Executives Institute; Interstate Tax Corporation; Unclaimed Property Professionals Organization; and Lorman Education Services.
Mr. Browdy's legal practice concentrated in state and local tax controversy and planning opportunities. His litigation experience includes administrative hearings, as well as district and intermediate and supreme court appellate proceedings. While in law firm practice, he advised multistate and multinational clients regarding state and local tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, asset dispositions, business location and expansion, and a wide variety of related issues.
