For over 10 years our Tax shop branch has offered reliable and valued Accounting, Payroll and Tax (APT) services for SMMEs from various industries. An exciting new development for our branch has allowed us to expand our business to Rosebank, Johannesburg; as well as expanding our offering to include specialized management accounting and financial accounting services for all size businesses.
Focusing on my key skill of process review and improvement, I have been recently asked to lead risk analysis and also train Supply Chain Finance teams in the finer details of their roles to ensure good controls across the Africa cluster. I have also done a lot of forensic type of auditing to support the security department on internal investigations since I have a great understanding of the SAP system and potential gaps in ways of using the system. Although fairly new to this role, I bring 7 years of experience in Supply Chain operational finance with me from working in various types of factories, central services and also with various service providers in the warehousing space. Skills I have gathered and used in this role are as follows: 1) Leading sensitive audits and compiling valuable reports on the results and action plans to close the gaps in controls 2) Training Operational and Finance teams remotely and face to face in Supply Chain Management and Finance 3) Leading stock counts from both an operational and finance point of view 4) Writing up and implementing Standard Operating Procedures in the Supply Chain which includes Financial controls 5) Collaborating across different teams to ensures all risks identified are closed off, this also includes working closely with very Senior stakeholders, Vice Presidents and Directors across the business
Managing a team of five people, our goal is to become world class in creditors management by implementing global projects, managing our outsourced service provider, improving local excel tools for vendor reconciliations and providing strategic business partnering to manage working capital, payment on time and purchasing policy compliance. My main role is to be the key person in continuous process improvement which means I quickly learn about the different areas of the business and then find a solution to ongoing problems causing late payments. Skills I have gathered and used in this role are as follows: 1) Understanding the Purchasing and Vendor aspects of SAP in more detail 2) Growing the excel capabilities of the team (I did this in all my roles) 3) Creating a excel vendor reconciliation file which is still in use today (reconciling data from SAP and the invoice query tools against the vendor statement) 4) Working with outsourced service providers and internal teams to mitigate risks and optimize ways of working, to reduce payment queries
Managing our factory budgets, forecasting and cost management. Due to the nature of my current role I am also learning about managing costs in a restructuring budget. Also with my production accounting background I provide assistance and advice on production related accounting: price variances, stock control etc. Skills I have gathered and used in this role are as follows: 1) Working in a restructuring environment, dealing with project management and the various challenges that brings 2) Analysing costs and reporting on them in detail for swift action to save and reduce overall expenditure 3) Resolving queries with suppliers to ensure services do not get terminated due to non-payment 4) Supporting stock counts and investigating variances 5) Forecasting for the factory budget and identifying risks and opportunities to drive value adding for the future 6) Creating clear and concise management reports, and training my direct report to be a back up to me if I am out of the office (He had no Finance experience, and by the time I left this role he had proficient skills to run the finance aspects of the factory on his own)

My Treasury and Accountant role here includes managing cashbook reconciliations, bank reconciliations, administration of accounting documents, cross checking Pastel results to what's budgeted or expected, preparing audit files and ensuring correct accounting practice is used.
Tharpa Publications is a Global organization distributing the wisdom of Meditation & Buddhism throughout the world through the kindness of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso (the author & founder). My role here in the SA branch includes managing every aspect of the business from ordering and importing books, CDs, artwork etc, to invoicing, preparing customer statements, packing and distributing to our Reps in Johannesburg & Cape Town, administration and sales, customer queries, basically everything except foreign payments which my Director assists with.

My teaching opportunity started in La Lucia in Oct 2007, this class has now moved to a venue in Umhlanga, this is my longest meditation group which is still running. Then in Jan 2011 I started to teach in Ballito as well (still ongoing) and through a lot of interest we started a Foundation programme (more indepth study of Buddhism) in Umhlanga as well in Apr 2011 (still ongoing). I have also taught meditation courses in La Lucia/Umhlanga covering various topics from my Tradition.
