Graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, and licensed merchant marine officer and commissioned officer in the USNR. Currently commissioned in the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) as a Special Duty Officer-Strategic Sealift Officer (SSO 1665). Prior to appointment to USMMA, I was an enlisted sailor training to be a qualified Nuclear Reactor Electrician. Goal-oriented and thrive on solving complex problems and working with people to reach solutions and common consensus. Trained in all aspects of basic and intermediate maritime operations, to include onshore cargo/stevedoring operations and offshore navigation and shiphandling schema.
Oversee and perform operations related to the safe and effective navigation of offshore supply/specialty vessels using a dynamic positioning system (to include standing a full navigation watch with a bridge team complement); perform routine safety inspections and continuously update the training and implementation of company safety policy; manage and mitigate risk associated with cargo operations during oil rig operations, dive support operations, and specialty operations.
Provide professional and tactical leadership and oversight to integrate elements of the US Navy and the US Merchant Marine, and teach and instruct naval personnel in US Merchant Marine affairs and operations. Provide maritime training as a SME and act as a valuable link between the civilian maritime world and the US Navy. Crew and command the Strategic Sealift Ready Reserve Fleet in support of wartime and/or buildup operations should the need or necessity arise.
Manage, oversee, and assist in the import/export of containerized cargo in the Garden City Terminal of Savannah, GA by controlling and monitoring longshoremen labor, stevedore operations, and intermodal logistics; oversee and direct company safety policy implemented at the ground level; continuously train in various capacities to mitigate risk associated with containerized cargo operations.
Trained and worked with the crew of the Maersk Line, Limited ship the M/V Alliance Fairfax, a Roll-On/Roll-Off car carrier to safely and effectively transport commercial vehicles, and military vehicles, throughout the Persian Gulf, Near East, and East and West Africa; gained experience in various ship handling operations; and stood a full navigation watch.
One month spent working on ROS ship M/V Cape Kennedy, performing preventative maintenance and contributing to daily workload.
