    Our world grows more noisy and cluttered. In our frantic pace to keep up, we become increasingly disconnected with who we are. I’ve been exploring abstract paintings based on iPhone photos that have been manipulated to create imagery that conveys a sense of peace and quiet. In a sense, I am exploring two aspects of the human condition: our eventual demise and a certain peace that comes from wisely considering our short time here. In the past I focused on urban landscapes that bordered on abstraction, influenced by early twentieth-century American painters such as Georgia O’Keefe and Edward Hopper. Now that tendency has swung all the way to abstraction with some resemblance to the real world, engulfing the real in fog and mist.
