Tansi! Brad Wuetherick nisihkason. I am an academic administrator, teacher and researcher. My focus has been on improving teaching and learning in higher education, in particular through more equitable and inclusive practices (including through Indigenous pedagogies and practices). In particular, my recent interests are focused on undergraduate research mentorship and its role in student identity development, particularly as we strive to increase indigenous student pathways into research. I have also been involved in a number of projects related to the scholarship of teaching and learning, academic development, academic analytics (student success and retention), understanding faculty attitudes towards teaching and learning, academic leadership development, curriculum and program development, course design, e-learning and learning technologies, graduate supervision and mentorship, early career academic mentorship, and other forms of experiential learning and high-impact practices in higher education. I am currently (late October 2025) stepping into a 14-month term as Director, Teaching and Learning at Capilano University, where I will be overseeing the Centre for Teaching Excellence and a broader portfolio of teaching and learning projects and initiatives in the Provost Office. I have previously served in a number of leadership roles at the University of British Columbia Okanagan (Associate Provost Academic Programs, Teaching and Learning), Dalhousie University (Executive Director, Learning and Teaching), University of Saskatchewan (Program Director, Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching Effectiveness), and University of Alberta (in a variety of roles). I am a husband to an amazing partner (Elizabeth), and father to three exceptional kids (Matthew, Emma, and Charlotte). Born in Edmonton, Alberta, and raised in Sherwood Park, Alberta, I am of Métis and European ancestry. My Dad (Maurice Wuetherick) was a second generation settler to Canada, and my mom (Evelyn Jex Wuetherick née Huppie) is Métis from Lac La Biche, Alberta.
Stepping in for a 14 month term as the Director, Teaching and Learning in the Centre for Teaching Excellence and Office of the Provost and VP Academic at Capilano University. Overseeing the Centre for Teaching Excellence, and a broader portfolio of teaching and learning initiatives and projects in the Provost Office, I am excited to be part of the Capilano University community!
In addition to the work I have been doing through the Gardner Institute, I have been doing some leadership consulting related primarily to student success, teaching and learning, curriculum transformation and analytics, and student experience surveys, primarily with institutions in Canada.
On August 1st, 2013 I started as the Executive Director in the Centre for Learning and Teaching and the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS, Canada.
