Over the last 17+ years, I've been architecting, building, and managing data and cloud solutions for over 100 organizations around the world. I have worn many hats and have worked directly with people from all levels (CEO on down) in all sorts of industries / organizations. Along the way, I've had the privilege of leading multiple data teams, driving some pretty serious (and seriously cool) projects, and working with an enormous variety of tech stacks. Beyond that experience, I've also earned a broad set of professional certifications with enterprise architecture (TOGAF), information security (CISSP Asc.), and numerous cloud platforms (Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, etc.) as a data architect / data engineer / data scientist. Lately, I have finished my last contract in New Zealand, flown back to Nebraska, and joined the extremely talented crew at FMNE. I spend my days looking after the organization's cloud data platforms and charting the course forward to what comes next. This new role keeps me wearing many hats just like always... and I keep loving it just like always.
I look after FMNE's Azure cloud estate and associated data platforms. I hold primary responsibility for the optimal architecture, strategic implementation, and efficient administration of the cloud-based tech stack that is powering a major renaissance for FMNE.
Managed, modernized, and greatly improved the Investment Team’s data solution – first for Kiwi Wealth and later for all of Fisher Funds Group. I functioned in a technical leadership role for my domain, guiding architecture and governance processes for the combined organization as we transformed multiple systems into a unified, multi-cloud, modern data solution with a medallion architecture.
Provided technical & tactical leadership at Summerset's international head office to build a new cloud data platform and analytics practice from the ground up. I took the lead on architecture, data governance, optimization, etc. This was only for a fixed term contract before I handed the reins to a permanent BI manager.
Headed up Stellar’s largest data team (10+) as a tech lead / lead developer where I coordinated the successful completion of a major, multi-enterprise transformation initiative. I also took on various data architect, project manager, and agile leadership functions.
Over my years with Inhouse, I took on projects of all shapes and sizes at many public and private organizations. For the final three or four years, I was the designated consultant at a government authority where I functioned as the point man for their enterprise data / business intelligence system - dramatically advancing the organization's data and analytics capabilities across the board.
