After starting a volunteer period at the Maritime Museum of San Diego, I came to realize that working with historic boats, small and large was an immense interest that I was unaware of for most of my life. Since, and with the latest project I am working on, I have realized even more that I excel in the yard in the area of maintenance, repair, and restoration. Over the past ten years I have acquired a wide range of skills and experience, including the willingness to work long hours to accomplish tasks that I could bring to your organization. Applying some rusty illustration skills for freelance work, preferably for maritime publications.
Currently assisting in down rigging the schooner Bill of Rights for haul-out and removal of .masts and rigging for US Coast Guard inspection. Maintenance and repair of items prior to inspection as needed. Supervising volunteers in related work tasks.
Served as crew deckhand for the schooners Grace Bailey and Mercantile, including the spring fit out period. This period included haul out, scraping, paint and varnish work, seam caulking, and rigging. Sailing season included serving as deckhand on Penobscot Bay, sail handling, yawl boat experience, passenger interaction and watch responsibilities.
Rigging consultation and implementation of rigging survey results for the schooner Bill of Rights. Consultation between owners and United States Coast Guard with the intent to manage, repair and re-survey the ship's rigging.
