The mission of Thriving is to use exercise expertise to improve the health outcomes of kids & young people. In order to achieve this we aim to: ~ Improve physical and mental health outcomes through evidence-based exercise programs for kids & young people ~ Increase family, community and health professional knowledge of exercise and it's role in health ~ Provide & support opportunities for all kids & young people to experience a positive exercise environment As the founding director of Thriving Exercise Rehabilitation Inc (www.thrivinginmotion.org), I have set up numerous community partnerships in order to deliver exercise services to improve the physical and mental health of children and young people with unique needs. Service and research collaborations include UWA School of Human Sciences, Telethon7 Perth, WA Drug and Alcohol Youth Service, Act Belong Commit and community health providers. Thriving delivers and supports (via education and research) exercise services that impact the physical and mental health of WA children, young people and their families, and helps to inform evidence-based clinical practice. Importantly, as a not-for-profit we look to collaborations and community partners to help us provide services to kids and families in need, without adding further financial burden or barriers on those who need it most. Our vision is that all young people, regardless of their medical, behavioural or social barriers, should have the opportunity to participate in a positive exercise experience that supports their health. By engaging and supporting communities, including exercise and health services, we envisage an Australia where no young person is excluded from participation.
