As Mediclinic‘s industry affairs executive I lead the development and execution of industry affairs strategies whilst supporting the mitigation of downside issues for Mediclinic in South Africa. I am also responsible for developing new and maintaining existing key stakeholder relationships. Part of my role is to build knowledge and develop strong relationships with key bodies and individuals responsible for shaping policy/legislation/regulation in key business interest areas for Mediclinic. I strive to proactively understand impending changes in pertinent policy/legislation/regulation and proactively work towards establishing and maintaining sustainable, mutually favourable solutions for Mediclinic and its stakeholders. In this regard I further draw on the knowledge and expertise of my colleagues to develop evidence/fact based policy responses in key areas that affect the healthcare industry.

Government Relations, Shell South Africa Upstream B.V. August 2011 – June 2015 [Shell South Africa Upstream B.V. has applied for exploration of Shale Gas reserves within the Karoo and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell. Providing key strategic support for Shell’s onshore and offshore upstream activities in South Africa] Leading and driving strategic engagements at number of levels namely: • National Government • Provincial Government • District Municipalities • Local Municipalities • Community Organisations • National Organisations such as AgriSA and Nafu • NGO engagement • Leveraging 3rd party advocacy Achievements • Developed a stakeholder engagement strategy that allowed for proactive engagements to create a shared understanding with a wide range of stakeholders • Facilitated successful engagements for Shell with President and Deputy President of South Africa as well as with a number of Ministers • Provided guidance and facilitated successful engagements with the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provincial governments. This was with the respective Premier’s and relevant MEC’s. • Provided guidance and facilitated successful engagements with the 7 district municipalities within the license application area with both the political and administrative stakeholders. • Provided guidance and facilitated successful engagements with the 17 local municipalities within the license application area with both the political and administrative stakeholders. • Successfully concluded over 350 high level strategic engagements and facilitated participation in 10 conferences in the last 12 months. A combined total of 3000 stakeholders were engaged during this time. • Successfully raised the profile of the new General Manager for Upstream in South Africa.
Led the Upstream stakeholder engagement process as part of the Communication’s team. in his role as MD of Zwino Bob focuses on partnering Zwino with blue chip companies in addressing the following areas: 1. Mining Right Conversions and Applications where Zwino prepare and lodges all applications. Thereafter serving as an implementation agent. 2. Change Management - assisting in the development and implementation of Change Management Interventions. 3. Employment Equity - development and implementation of a comprehensive Employment Equity Strategy. 4. Human Resource Management - assist with the development and implementation of HR strategy 5. Public Relations - guide our partners in developing and implementing a comprehensive PR strategy that ehances reputation. 6. Enterprise development - assitsing our partners with economically sustainable sustainable enterprises within local communities that focuses on job creation. Achievements • Facilitated successful engagements for our clients with the relevant local municipality, provincial government as well as with National government. • Conducted a strategic review of a business unit that resulted in improved operational effectiveness. • Implemented SLP projects and successfully handed over within the budgeted time frames and arranged for coverage in all the local media. • As part of enterprise development we have recently assisted a local community to develop and successfully start an agricultural enterprise which has generated over R3m revenue in their first year. In addition to this enterprise has created seventy permanent and forty temporary jobs. • Presented a paper on the blueprint for success with respect to enterprise development at the 2009 mining rights conference • Assisted clients revise their Employment Equity Strategy. Trained their Employment Equity Committees to be more effective in the monitoring and evaluation of transformation at their respective organisations.
In his past role as the Public and Corporate Affairs Manager of De Beers Venetia Mine Bob handled all aspects of government relations, stakholder relations,public relations and corporate social investment in the Limpopo province for De Beers Consolidated Mines. Achievements • Project managed the Venetia Mine mining right conversion application – achieved successful conversion. • Hosted 180 international diamond customers at Venetia Mine on one day. This event was the first of its kind in De Beers’ 100 year history was considered a huge success. • Hosted high level international government and private sector delegations from, USA, Russia, India, China, Germany, London, Angola, DRC and Tanzania. • Hosted the Premier of the Limpopo Province and his Grace Bishop Barnabas Lekganyane from the Zion Christian Church. • Participated in a mining summit with the National Minister of Mining. • Initiated a regional mining forum with participation of the Premier’s office and most of the large mining organisations in Limpopo Province. • Elevated the reputation of Venetia Mine to being one of the top mines in the Limpopo province. • Developed sustainable relationships with local and provincial governments. • Developed and sustained good relationships with all the local communities to a level that matured to one where the interactions were directly with the traditional leaders. • Facilitated Venetia Mine’s participation the 2006 National Productivity Awards – Venetia Mine won gold in the corporate sector. • Received a green audit for the international assurance on ethical practice at Venetia Mine. • Facilitated the hosting of two successful supplier days to highlight the procurement system at Venetia Mine as well as expose potential suppliers to the procurement team. • Was instrumental in starting two field bands one in Blouberg and the other in Musina.
