Bradford, England, United Kingdom
I have been volunteering since I was 14 years old, and at 18 I joined vInspired’s Team V as a team leader running community projects in Bradford which gave me the skills and confidence to continue volunteering with various organisations and open and run my own business, a comic book shop which operated in Bradford for 18 months and had a heavy focus on community and social enterprise. Since closing the shop I have volunteered in Zambia with Restless Development, worked for a local health charity as a community development worker and completed an access course in social sciences, allowing me to progress into university to study at degree level.
Leading a team on a pilot programme supporting individuals who have been struggling with their mental health to return to, or remain in, work. Working closely with the individual and their employer as an unbiased neutral party to provide the best health outcome for the client and increase staff retention for their employer.
Long term community based support working with young people to manage their mental health and get into employment.
Teaching games to people at various stores and events. A hobby I am lucky enough to be paid for working alongside an amazing team
Supporting 16 - 18 year old unaccompanied asylum seekers in a residential setting. Helping residents to access education, gain skills around living independently and learn English.
Working on a permaculture project in the Great Horton area of Bradford, maintaining the site as well as engaging with aspects of supporting the running of the organisation. One of many extra opportunities I accessed while completing my degree in order to improve my skills and experience.
Working in various roles within a hostel for homeless young people. I exercised empathy when working with people encountering numerous difficulties and supported them to engage with services and gain life skills.
