Bernhard Philipp Eder, born & raised in Vienna, Austria, has devoted his life to the arts of music from a very early age. At the age of 15, while studying at the Musikgymnasium Wien Neustiftgasse & Konservatorium Wien University (organ), he made the decision to become a composer & conductor. After High School graduation 2004 he spent his obligatory military time as pianist & arranger at the Military Music Department Vienna. 2005-2013 he studied composition with Martin Lichtfuss, Reinhard Karger & Michael Jarrell at the University of Music & Performing Arts, Vienna (mdw) – also studying orchestration w/ Ertugrul Sevsay - and received his masters degree in January 2013. In 2006 he won the 1st prize of the "Salieri Today" international composing competition. 2014 he was invited as guest composer to the ensemble mise-en new music festival in New York City. 2009-2015 he also studied orchestral conducting at the Music University Vienna w/ Uros Lajovic, Simeon Pironkoff and Johannes Wildner. He attended conducting masterclasses w/ Bertrand de Billy, Fabio Luisi, Johannes Wildner & w/ Naoki Sugiyama in Estonia & has conducted orchestras like the ORF RSO Wien, Czech National Symphony Orchestra (CNSO), Hollywood Studio Symphony Orchestra, MG Sound Studio Orchestra, Sinfonietta dell' Arte (Vienna), Klaspärlimäng Sinfonietta (Estonia) & more. 2016-2020 he taught as an assistant teacher at a composing class at the mdw. He now currently functions as a lecturer there. His scores for the shortfilms "Daydreamer" & "Edge of the Wood" were nominated at certain film awards. In summer 2017 he took part at the ASCAP Filmscoring Workshop w/ Richard Bellis in LA. 2017 he released his first orchestral album "Spacehasen Suite". He regularly participated at the Hollywood Music Workshop in Austria, w/ renowned film scoring professionals Bruce Broughton, Blake Neely & Conrad Pope, & has conducted several of the workshops recording sessions there in 2012 & 2013. Eder also works as freelance arranger/orchestrator for prominent organisations such as Hollywood in Vienna, ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, Linzer Klangwolke 2021, Wiener Symphoniker, Philharmonia Orchestra London, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & many more.
2020-2024 Lehrbeauftragter im Vorbereitungslehrgang für das Studium Dirigieren / Lecturer in the preparation course for conducting studies seit Oktober 2022 auch Lehrbeauftragter für das Wahlfach "Praxis der Musiknotation" / since October 2022 also Lecturer for the elective course "Pratice of Music Notation"
As assistant to Prof. Martin Lichtfuss' composition class, Bernhard Eder teaches students of the 1st study section in Music Theory and Counterpoint.
