Objectives: • Support R&D projects, eVTOL and serial production airframes concerning composites materials and their associated process Tasks: • Material and Process focal point on WISK Generation 6 eVTOL • Ownership and authority to create, carry out and report on materials testing programs • Create, maintain and apply material and process specifications • Coordinate the realization of prototypes and shop floor trials • Redaction of FAA material equivalency/qualification test plan reports to support M&P certification • Perform statistical analysis of data to generate design allowables or determine material equivalency • Support production for material and process discrepancies including NCR reply • Interact weekly with suppliers of parts and materials as well as OEM and FAA authorities • Train less experienced staff and provide a support as a technical authority about composite for the other departments • Member of the International Aerospace Environmental Group and their Work Group about Life Cycle Assessment
As a Senior Composite Materials Engineer, I support all aspects of materials (composites and adhesives mainly) utilized in Formula 1 chassis design (e.g. suspension, floor, brake ducts, chassis, wings, nosebox, bodywork) and their associated R&D projects. It requires looking at how exploiting materials to their limits and bringing new materials that are lighter and more efficient from a cost, supply, performance and sustainability point of view. General tasks: - Assist Design in the selection of materials and their use including allowables generation - Ownership and authority to create, carry out and report on materials testing programs - Generate and support R&D projects - Monitor the latest trends in materials and processes - Perform failure analysis and recommend revisions to prevent re-occurrence - Develop and maintain process documentation - Main technical point of contact for composite suppliers - Provide a support as a technical authority about composites and adhesives and their processes for the other departments (Manufacturing, Quality, Prototype and Test, Trackside, Procurement) - Assist the development of less experienced staff
Amaris aims at supporting their clients in carrying out their projects by acting within their organization to help improve effectiveness and enhance performance.
Description of my project as an Amaris consultant: Materials & Processes Engineer in the Engineering team of a world leader in aeronautic advanced structures Objectives: Support the R&D and production projects concerning mainly composite materials but also other non-metallic materials (paints, adhesives, surface treatments, ...) and metallic materials (aluminium alloys) Tasks: Research, development and characterization of materials and processes: - Prepare, support and evaluate test campaigns for coupon and parts testing - Coordinate the realization of prototypes - Generate allowables for the stress department Qualification of materials, processes and parts: - Qualification of pre-serial composite and sandwich parts (test plan definition including destructive and non-destructive tests, manufacturing witnessing, qualification report) - Ensure that adequate M&P qualification is achieved until customer approval Provide a support as a technical authority about materials and processes for the other departments, suppliers and customers: - Participate in the preparation of process audits - Write process and material specifications - Participate in business travels in subsidiaries to represent the M&P Engineering Department during the manufacturing of pre-serial parts Project leader: - Manage research in coordination with academic institutes, research centres and industries
