I really enjoy my time in the FIELD as an assistant project manager in the construction industry. Why? I have 6 reasons below. 1)During the pre-bid process this is where I like to walk the job with the General Foreman(or Superintendent) start to talk strategy about completing said project as well as how do we win this project?(whos our competition? how many crews do we need? per diem? equipment, etc) 2)I like being out there with the crews to see how they solve problems, and take notes on how I can improve a smoother transition for mobbing, ordering materials, equipment, connex, office supplies, demobbing etc. 3)This is where I learn the most and where I ask the most questions. Each foreman has a different perspective on how to solve problems so this benefits me greatly for preparing for future bids. 4)Being in the field with the crews on day to day operations makes the project feel more like a team. Not just a "bean counter" in the office counting pennies and chasing the next job. 5) I am very accountable person, and if I make a mistake(which I will) I'll be the first to admit it. This is where myself, foreman, subcontractors will put our heads together and solve the problem. 6) Why wouldn't I be out in the field? If I was in the office Monday-Friday that would be the worst!
