Growing up in rural central Kentucky, I was first witness to the dire consequences of insufficient access to healthcare. In high school I took my first step on the path to address this issue by applying to Sewanee's pre-med honors program, and I haven't stopped moving forward since. Four years later I received a BA in Cultural Anthropology and completed the Pre-Med program at Sewanee, graduating with a GPA of 3.92. Working at an underserved urban clinic in Kentucky helped me keep sight of the reason I started down this path. Since graduating I have focused on developing my experience with patient care through diverse EMT roles including wildland fire, ski patrol and spill clean up work on the Yellowstone River. I am currently in the process of applying to medical school, specifically to programs which focus on underserved rural tribal primary care.Growing up in rural central Kentucky, I was first witness to the dire consequences of insufficient access to healthcare.
