About

I help enterprise leaders navigate the intersection of AI, workplace flexibility, and organizational transformation. I'm the CEO of Work Forward, an executive-in-residence at Charter, and a Senior Advisor with BCG. A recognized expert on the future of work, I'm the bestselling author of "How the Future Works" and a noted speaker and columnist. I spent 25 years building teams and leading companies as a startup CEO and executive at Google, Slack and Salesforce. In 2020, I co-founded Future Forum, a think tank focused on the future of work that published quarterly research reports tapping 10,000 workers in 6 countries. Today, my work focuses on AI's impact on organizational design, the shift from efficiency to growth, and how enterprise leaders can measure AI impact through outcomes rather than adoption. My work with enterprise executives improves organizational performance through redesigning how teams work: building productive and healthy cultures, leveraging technology (including AI) and aligning around clear goals. I've supported firms from startups to enterprise leaders like Airbnb, Allstate, Atlassian, Capital One, Datavant, Teradyne, Zillow and more. In my work with Charter, I convene senior leaders across HR and People disciplines, Workplace and Technology to share the latest research, case studies and expert knowledge. My senior advisor work with BCG (Boston Consulting Group) focuses specifically on product and technology leadership: bringing a tech-native perspective on product development leadership, best practices and capabilities to global leaders. I also publish the Flex Index, which tracks workplace flexibility policies for 9,000 US-based companies, and the Work Forward newsletters, and am on Forbes' Future of Work 50. My work enables leaders to build a future of work that's better for people and organizations, combining research-backed insights with practical advice from 30 years of leadership experience. Member organizations include companies like Airbnb, Allstate, BCG, Capital One, Circle, Delta Dental, Dropbox, MillerKnoll, Rocket Mortgage, Target, Udemy, Upwork, Zapier and Zillow. I help organize and convene events, like Charter's Leading with AI Summits which bring together 200 VP+ leaders in person with leading experts, C-suite leaders and experts. Our recent events included CPOs of Anthropic, Box, IBM, Thomson Reuters, Walmart, the CEOs of Klarna and Replit, CIOs of Wayfair and Workday with academics from HBS, Stanford, Wharton and more. Flex Index by Work Forward is the leading global source for workplace flexibility policies. Think of it as the "Consumer Reports" of workplace policies—objective, comprehensive, and continuously updated. Every company has a stance on workplace flexibility, but most don't make their office requirements public, and those that do describe their policies in wildly different ways. This creates a black box that frustrates job seekers, HR leaders, workplace strategists, researchers, and journalists alike. Flex Index cuts through this confusion by providing a single source of truth on workplace flexibility for over 13,000 companies worldwide (8,500+ in the US alone). Flex Index publishes quarterly reports that dig deep into workplace trends, deep dives into geographies and industries, and publishes the Flex Index newsletter and webinar series.
