I help organisations navigate complex transformation by improving the way strategy, delivery, technology, and people work together. My experience spans large-scale digital transformation, delivery optimisation, organisational change, and capability development across complex engineering environments within regulated industries. I currently co-lead ways of working in a digital cloud transformation programme across 70+ teams and 700+ colleagues at NatWest Group. I am particularly interested in: • Organisational effectiveness and operating models • Delivery flow and engineering effectiveness • AI-enabled delivery improvement • Leadership and capability development • Sustainable transformation that improves both outcomes and experience My approach combines systems thinking, data-led decision making, and pragmatic people-centred leadership. I enjoy bringing clarity to ambiguity, facilitating difficult conversations, and helping organisations translate strategic intent into practical change. Alongside my transformation work, I am co-author of Workplace Learning for Humans, exploring learning science and sustainable capability development in modern organisations. Outside of work, I enjoy organisational psychology, cognitive neuroscience, theatre, and continuously experimenting with ways to work and learn better.
As Lead Scrum Master, I have the sole accountability of Ways of Working across a domain of more than 50 teams, encompassing 600 people. In this position I employ product management skills to understand the needs of the people in the domain, and iterate solutions to improve efficacy of delivery and wellbeing of colleagues. I lead feedback groups, wellbeing initiatives, and capability chapters to get engagement from the Scrum Teams as well as networking with key people in all areas. With the team of agilists I coach, mentor, and manage, we measure, inspect and adapt the Commercial Banking Scrum Teams through our Digital Transformation.
As Scrum Master for multiple teams in Commercial Banking, I acted as a servant leader by coaching the teams to grow in their agile mindsets as well as facilitating the removal of their delivery impediments within a highly regulated environments. The majority of my tenure was with the teams working on the Digital Transformation via AWS technologies. With them, I coached in Product Ownership of the complex backlog, stakeholder management regarding forecasts and effective Sprint Reviews, and helped to translate the technical language into a consumable form. I introduced Kanban metrics to the team to aid flow. In the wider community, I acted as a Chapter Lead for a community of 30 Scrum Masters. In this community we collaborated on cross-platform challenges, including delivering agile trainings and Scrum Team data availability.
Trained Professional Scrum Master (PSM) courses for public and private classes, both in person and in virtual classrooms. Collaborated with the Professional Scrum Trainer community via yearly workshop, and through an online community to improve the Scrum.org offering to students. I remain a qualified trainer, but am not currently offering any training courses through Scrum.org.
Agile Lead and Product Owner for Awaze, tasked with coaching and leading the company’s first Scrum Team to rebuild the Owner Portal. Together we delivered the first release of the rebuilt system within 6 months on AWS, after 3 previous failed attempts. I supported the establishment of a mature, cross-functional Scrum Team which worked coherently to deliver Sprint Goals and had a collaborative and open relationship with business stakeholders. As the Product Owner I drove product-focused, iterative goals by establishing metric-based hypotheses and feedback loops with customers. At Planday as a Product consultant, I supported business decisions made during the Covid lockdowns with persona creation, data analysis, and strategic decision evidentiary documentation.
Scrum Master with the Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Scrum Teams who rebuilt, then maintained, and enhanced the company websites as part of their Digital Transformation. In my role I taught and mentored Scrum within the team and in the company enabling the Scrum Team to continuously improve in their effectiveness and deliver value. During my time here the team delivered two new websites on time and on budget and increased the frequency of releases from every four months to every two weeks. I worked with project management and senior stakeholders to improve cross-team alignment and planning using SAFe methodologies, leading PI Planning and Scrum of Scrum events as an RTE. I also mentored Product Owners and collaborated to create a Product Mindset driven development approach.
