Dissertation Title: Comparison of Living and Self-Reported Stature This study aimed to compare living stature and self-reported stature and ascertain the magnitude of differences between the stature types. 76 participants were randomly recruited from University of Dundee and tasked to complete a questionnaire. A stadiometer was used to measure their living stature to nearest 0.1cm. Data analysis was conducted with paired t-test to test for the significant difference between self- reported and living stature. Results - Self-reported stature was found to be significantly different to measured stature (t (75)= 3.01, p= .004). - When considered separately, there was a significant difference between the self-reported stature and measured stature of males (t (32)= 3.50, p= .001), while in females, an insignificant difference was found (t (42)= .795, p= .431). - 84.8% of males and 44.2% of females overestimated their stature. The percentage of overestimation also increases with increased age. Findings of this study concluded - Significant difference between self-reported stature and living stature, with females more accurately reporting their stature as compared to males. - An increase in age affects the accuracy of self-percepted stature. - These findings contribute and build onto previous findings. However, future research with a larger sample size should be conducted to further validate these findings and investigate further the effect of age on self-reported stature.
