Dr Barry Drake is an independent consultant with 20+ years of experience in data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence. His career has spanned industry, government and academic sectors. Since 2016 he has specialised in data generated by health systems, health devices and health apps. Barry works with government and industry in: (1) consulting on strategic research and development road maps, (2) advice and hands-on input on complex data analytics and product development, (3) building data science capability (mentoring and training), (4) filling short-term skills shortages for data science and computer science. He draws on extensive experience as an Industry Professor at UTS and Senior Principal Engineer at Canon Information Systems Research Australia (CISRA). He has initiated and led projects with NSW Health, Headsafe, Educator Impact, Canon Inc. and many others. Barry competently operates at many levels within projects. He advises on R&D strategic plans, manages teams and stakeholders, designs software architecture and components, develops research and data analytics methodologies, and codes in many computer languages (C, C++, Java, Python, SQL and others). He has strong experience with analysis linked data, ethics and governance, and with patent drafting. This role I have the pleasure to share with Professor Federico Girosi. The Chief Scientists oversee and advice on the overall technical quality of research projects put forward for funding. We oversee the activity of any data scientists or software engineers that may be employed by the CRC as well as providing advice and input into any data tools or technical solutions proposed for developed within the CRC. We work closely with the Director of Research and the CEO.
