Barbara Singer is an actor, model and voiceover artist working in New York City. Acting is her third successful career. Born in the Bronx 1927, she began working as an X-ray technician in 1951, a photographer in 1983, and an actor in 2006. In a recent interview Barbara said: "I am very grateful that in 1944 when I was a freshman at New York University, a fellow student named Louis Dienes told me about a poetry group in Greenwich Village taught by Eli Siegel, the great poet, critic, and educator who founded Aesthetic Realism. The basis of this philosophy is, ‘The world, art, and self explain each other: each is the aesthetic oneness of opposites.’ I was privileged to study with Mr. Siegel for many years." I love Aesthetic Realism, which I continue to study with Consultants and Associates at the Aesthetic Realism Foundation in Soho, New York City. It has been of great use to me personally and professionally. I saw it was true and beautiful when I first met it in 1944, and it has held up ever since." She won Best Actress Award at Tropfest NY 2008 for her role in Jonathan Emmerling’s film, Mrs. Jones. She has done major commercials for Skittles, TD Bank, Frank's Hot Sauce, Coca-Cola and Dr. Martens. Current film and TV projects include Private Life, Born Guilty, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, A Crisis in Six Scenes, and GIRLS. Print work includes Scientific American Mind and Reader’s Digest. She has fine agents—Don Buchwald & Associates for commercials and voiceovers, The Krasny Office for film and television, Bella Agency and MSA Models for print work. She is a member of SAG-AFTRA, ASMP, and ASPP. Barbara is working to publish the beautiful book of photographs and text called "With the March On Washington for Jobs and Freedom, August 28, 1963" by her late husband, the poet and photographer, Nat Herz. The Reverend Dr. Joseph E. Lowery has written a powerful foreword for the book. Barbara is now looking for a publisher.
