I love mentoring and sharing knowledge, and am passionate about working in diverse teams to tackle grand challenges. Over 16 years of competing in nonstop five-to-seven-day adventure races worldwide have brought my team and me several international victories. All those experiences have shaped my results focus and problem-solving mindset, aptitude for collaboration, stakeholder management, and task management and organization. I'm recognized for my ability to build effective relationships with experts from multiple fields across the world due to my reputation for research integrity and enthusiasm. I’m currently the President of the board of directors at the Forest Women’s Network (Rede Mulher Florestal), and a member of the Ecological Society of America, the American Geophysical Union, and the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation. Investigated natural disturbance impacts on tropical forests by quantifying forest resistance and resilience to tropical cyclones with a particular focus at the intersection of nutrient and carbon cycles.
Analyzed the impact of carbon accounting methods used by the four most commonly used REDD+ project-level crediting methodologies, all developed by the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), with a focus on how live tree above- and belowground carbon stocks are estimated. Authored the Forest Carbon Accounting chapter of the Berkeley Carbon Trading Project report on REDD+ methodologies and projects.
Quantified the effects of multiannual drought and warming on grassland systems in the U.S. Pacific Northwest, with a focus on soil carbon and nitrogen cycling and their linkages with plant functional composition and diversity across communities.
Competed in hundreds of adventure racing competitions in over ten countries with the Basque-Brazilian Team Columbia Vidaraid. We led the AR World Ranking 2014-2015, finished 2nd in World Championships in 2013 (Costa Rica) and 2014 (Ecuador), and 3rd in 2016 in Australia. I was the only woman in a 5-person team competing in non-stop multiday races including mountain biking, running, kayaking, rafting, orienteering, and more!
