Paediatric emergency specialist on a mission to improve emergency care for children. Interests include: clinical guidelines, training, standards of care and remote patient care.
Proud to be bringing top quality healthcare closer to children's own homes working with IC24, a major clinical-service providers for the NHS 111 platform. It is rewarding to be able to manage patients remotely, often without onward referral. I engage in detailed clinical consultations, often with video - and manage more about 60-70% with clinical advice, online prescriptions, safety-netting and/or liaison with their GP. Inevitably, some children will require face-to-face consultation with OOH providers, A&E or paediatrics. Playing our part in keeping onward referral numbers to a minimum is in the best interest of both patients and the wider health system. Remote patient care, is so much more convenient for patients and families - whilst helping reduce pressures on acute and emergency services - I'm sure this is will become the most common form of medical consultation going forwards.
Loved being back at Sheffield Children's Emergency Department - working as a PEM consultant (locum) involved in acute care of ill and injured children. The PED sees over 60,000 children/year and is a designated Major Trauma Centre for South Yorkshire for under-16s. Certainly see a lot of high-acuity trauma - with a very handy helipad on the roof - and a brilliant Trauma Team set-up.
Great working at Evelina London Children's Hospital Emergency Department as a Locum PEM Consultant. The paediatric A&E forms part of the incredibly busy St Thomas's emergency floor. It is staffed with highly skilled consultants and resident doctors and some of the best paediatric emergency nurses I have ever had the pleasure of working alongside. This department is one of the friendliest, most welcoming places I have worked and they do a phenomenal job looking after not just the children and their families, but also of looking after one another. An added bonus is being back at my alma mater Guy's & Tommy's is where it all began for me as a medical student... so many happy memories!
Worked as a locum PEM consultant in the Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) at Bradford Royal Infirmary - just streets away from where I grew up - was both rewarding and challenging. This busy PED serves a deprived inner-city population, where I worked alongside a formidable team of dedicated doctors, advanced clinical practitioners and nurses.
