About

I have been out from IT since 2011. I was made redundant from my last IT job in 2011. This was a time when jobs were hard to find. So since 2011 I have been working at Heathrow. I want to continue adding value to your company and it's processes using my IBM AS400 / RPG400 & COBOL 400 skills. I have very good customer facing skills gained over many years of experiences in addition to the solid IBM AS/400 RPG/400 & COBOL/400 technical skills already documented. I work and integrate equally well in to a team or when appropriate, I work well autonomously. Happy to do whatever is required. I can provide first class professional references. I am CRB checked and cleared in late 2011. I work for HSBC, so all my background checks are up to date and I will seamlessly fit in to another financial organisation and complete all FSA background checks without a problem anywhere. I am used to an early start, so if you want someone who can reliably start work early in the morning when others are just getting out of bed, I’m one of the best professionals you can get. I last developed using IBM AS400 RPG400 just before I joined HSBC, and I’m always happy to re-familiarise myself with IBM RPG/400 or COBOL/400 Development when required – a pleasure. Seeking a new challenge transferring my breadth and depth of IBM AS/400 RPG400 & COBOL400 skills and experiences. You are actively encouraged to contact me with any new career opportunities that will add value to your departments or to your clients. Thanks, Avtar. Specialties: IBM AS/400 RPG/400 & COBOL/400 Application Support Specialist. I am passionate about providing users with the best support that they can get. I am reliable, personable honest, ethical and very hardworking, and I will always go that extra mile to ensure all is completed. I possess and demonstrate superb written and oral communication skills. I am happy to commute reasonable distances. For HSBC, I regularly drive to Sheffield and Birmingham. I previously commuted long distances to various sites.

  • IBM AS400 RPG400 Development at Leaseplan UK – RPG
    May 2001 - May 2002 · 1 yr 1 mo

IBM AS400 RPG400 Development: · Working on a new project for developing a Disposals system for their fleet cars. · Started the project from the start, held meetings with users to outline the main requirements. Analysed the feedback from the users and created data models. · Used the data models to create file requirements and data entities. Used the entities to create program modules again having constant feedback with user meetings. · Created physical/logical files and profiled linkage against files. · Created RPG400 program modules to link with web pages designed by my colleague. · Set up test data to verify data flow between modules. · Created report programs (in RPGIV) interactive programs requiring user entry. · Also wrote interactive screen programs with sub-file handling for statistical purpose. · Also embedded MQseries commands within the RPG400 coding for data flow between AS400 and the web ASP’s.. · For each program I had to set ‘ field mappings’ per file, using Start/End positions for each field. I set the mappings in the Data Structure part of the RPG400 program and by use of the MQseries we were able to pass data across from the AS400 to the Web page. Set up the various queues, channels and processes for the MQSeries to function.
