Istanbul, Türkiye
I’m an interdisciplinary scholar, violinist, and documentary creator working at the intersection of culture, media, and public engagement, with a focus on cross-cultural understanding and the politics of belonging. I hold a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from Harvard University, with a secondary concentration in Social Anthropology, and currently serve as an Early-Career Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge. My research examines how music, sound, and performance shape identities, institutions, and cultural labor in Türkiye and its diaspora. As a musician, I’m trained in Western classical violin and have spent nearly a decade studying Turkish classical makam music through long-term collaboration with master musicians. Performance and cross-cultural engagement are central to both my research and my public-facing work. I’m the creator and host of Türkiye’yi Dinliyorum (I’m Listening to Türkiye), a multi-season musical travel documentary series currently airing on Turkish National Television, where I interview and perform alongside culture-bearers from across the country. The series brings together scholarship, performance, and storytelling to reach broad public audiences. Alongside my academic and media work, I’ve collaborated with international arts, media, and educational institutions and previously worked in journalism and international affairs contexts, including with ABC News and the U.S. Department of State. I’m particularly interested in collaborative projects that connect local cultural worlds to global audiences. >>>More at: www.audreywoz.com

I write about the discursive and material constructions of kinship and the state in urban diasporic contexts, particularly those of Turkey and China. I have been conducting ethnographic and archival fieldwork in Istanbul and Turkish diasporic communities since 2015, examining how the concept of discipline has shaped Turkish civil society through examining Turkish classical music choirs in the country and abroad. I have also published interdisciplinary research on surveillance, censorship, and transnational communities in East Asia.
I have served as a research assistant and editor for professors at Harvard University and Wellesley College and currently offer my services to writers seeking support with developing their research, editing, and proofreading. I have edited research articles and dissertations from a wide variety of fields as well as journalistic creative writing. Having worked extensively with international students and spent time living and working abroad in Japan, China, Turkey, Indonesia, and the UK, I am particularly adept at proofreading with different cultural contexts and language backgrounds in mind, and am able to bring out the writer's voice clearly without losing their tone.
