I worked as a stage manager and assistant to the production manager for the production “Ο Βαφτιστικός (The Godchild)”, Theophrastus Sakellaridis, directed by the talented Petros Gallias, a production of Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion, Crete, supervised by the famous conductor and art director of the Cultural Center, Miron Michailidis and in his deputy Rafail Pylarinos. Written in 2003 by Martin McDonagh, the enfant terrible of the British stage, “The Pillowman” is a riveting black comedy. In an unspecified totalitarian state, a writer and his mentally retarded brother are interrogated by two policemen when similarities come to light between the writer's dark stories and a series of real-life child murders. A labyrinth of narratives in which illusion and reality, past and present, intersect to form a complex, fascinating and terrifying tale about life, art, politics, society, violence and creativity. “The Pillowman” won the Olivier Award for Play of the Year, the New York Drama Critics Award, and two Tonys. It has been translated into more than ten languages.
The performance is based on a series of everyday, "separate" stories about disability, diversity and the people around it. All the moments that structure the narrative of the show are inspired by the true stories of the people who represent them. Everyday life, through songs, poems and images is presented in a poetic way. This is the way to talk about the unspoken. The theatrical form is mixed with documentary elements and the heroes are introduced with their real name trying to answer the crucial question "who really am I?". Through the performance, the members the ensemble were given the common place to create from the beginning a new language of communication, a language that will push the viewer to distance himself from his prejudices and stereotypes, to see that the points that unite him with the "other" and the "different" are ultimately more than what separates him from it. The final composition of the text came from the members of the group (people with and without disabilities), who composed a complete dramatic and aesthetic performance, the result of many months and collective work, which reveals the power that "togetherness" has to overcome obstacles and harmoniously incorporate every different aspect of human nature.
September 2019. Outdoor spaces of Thessaloniki Concert Hall. A performance conceived by 6daEXIt and dancer/choreographer Drosia Triantaki, combining loosely structured improvisation, collective creation and realisation of a graphic score in real time, and contemporary dance. Performed during the event "Enclosures|Pass-throughs". A reflection on boundaries and escapes. 6daEXIt Improvisation Ensemble started off in 2007 at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki/Greece as the offshoot of a music improvisation course held by Alexis Porfiriadis at the Department of Music Studies. Since 2012 6daEXIt is an independent improvisation and experimental music ensemble based in the center of Thessaloniki. 6daEXIt Improvisation Ensemble is an open collective and anyone can become a member if the group agrees. Past concerts and activities have ranged from the performance of graphic and verbal score repertoire of the 20th and 21th century, to the creation and performance of verbal and graphic scores by members of the ensemble, and free improvisation. In the past ten years, 6daEXIt have collaborated with painters, dancers, music educators and schoolchildren, performed in anti-racist festivals and community outreach events across Greece, played alongside free form noise groups and new music ensembles, as well as performing more traditional concerts in recital halls and theatres. The constant search for new timbral, rhythmic and textural possibilities are central for 6daEXIt, as is the purely social and political dimension of collective music-making.
