I was given the exciting opportunity to attend a three-day virtual placement with Shoosmiths. This was a fantastic opportunity that provided me with a great insight into the company and gave me first-hand experience of the legal work undertaken at the firm. I had the opportunity to network with Partners, Associates and Trainees along with my peers and formed strong relationships during my time there. I listened to sector talks and gained an insight into areas such as real estate, energy and infrastructure and private client work. I completed various tasks such as giving a presentation, working on a business advisory challenge, and other legal tasks such as prioritisation exercises. This increased both my commercial awareness and allowed me to develop my legal skills such as communication, teamwork, and time management.
During my role I aim to promote issues affecting BAME students on campus and how Edinburgh Labour Students can support anti-racist movements and campaigns. This includes actively campaigning against incidents of discrimination that occur on campus and acting as a point of contact for BAME students within the society. I aim to be involved in campaigns promoting equality and liaise with fellow societies and liberation groups to achieve this.
