As Executive Vice President at Microsoft, Arun leads all data technologies for Microsoft: databases, analytics, data integration, messaging, observability, and business intelligence.
Arun runs engineering, product management, and cloud operations for all of Microsoft's Data Platform. This includes databases (Azure SQL, SQL Server, Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, MySQL), data integration (Azure Data Factory, Power Query), messaging (Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Hub, Azure Event Grid), big data analytics (Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Explorer) and business intelligence (Power BI).
Bootstrapped, built and managed a 60 employee organization in US and India. Provided provisioning software to large telcos (e.g. British Telecom, Telecom Australia), software vendors (e.g. Ceon Corp.) and switch vendors (e.g. Nortel, Nuera Communications). * Founded the company, assembled founding team and obtained first customer. Built the management team and organization structure to match growth over 6 years. * Achieved profitability in the first year. No venture capital required – growth funded through retained earnings. * Established software development operations in India through a wholly owned subsidiary in 1997 and setup processes to work effectively with offshore team. Reduced software development expenses by about 60%. Created cost, time, and tax advantages. * Developed an effective quality organization resulting in consistently high customer satisfaction. 95% deliveries made to customers over last 24 months have been on time. * Significantly developed test automation capability: 98% of defects detected before release to the customer. >80% of regression testing was automated. Invented design to simplify extension & maintenance of test automation software by splitting UI & business logic, and encoding in XML scripts. * Created a collaborative culture resulting in high employee satisfaction and employee attrition rates at less than 5% annually.
