Working for the European Central Engineering team supporting manufacturing sites in Wales implement risk based maintenance and failure reduction programs through coaching, guiding and setting standards. This also includes the project management of the implementation of a software program to support the above initiatives
I managed a team of mechanical engineers who reported directly to me, I promote cross training between departments, set SMART business and personal goals with clear objectives in line with the company’s strategic vision and manage engineering support as production requires. I manage the reliability program across the three manufacturing plants within the Finishing area, this involves identifying tracking and eliminating unreliable plant (Bad Actors) using maintenance costs & OEE, tracking the MRIV (Maintenance Renewal Insurance Value) for the finishing department trending maintenance spends using Minitab to a baseline industry standard of 2.5% and setting up a critical equipment review program
Mechanical Engineer within the Specialty Chemical section of the Barry site, with responsibility for the maintenance, reliability and improvements of plant and processes. The role involves working in a cross functional team and inputting specialized mechanical knowledge into problem solving, process improvement and safety issues. I must also liaise with other departments and organizations and make sure we are compliant with corporate procedures and legislation such the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and maintain the systems in place (SAP) to manage the maintenance of safety critical equipment. A major part of the role is managing the reliability of the process; this includes the management of the reliability improvements programs within the area and working on cross-site teams to share learning.
The day to day management of three separate products cells within the main factory of the dockyard, Rotating machinery, Machine shop and Diesels engine overhaul. This included having 9 project engineers and supervisors report directly to me, who were responsible for supervising of industrial staff, control work and bid for new contracts. I took personal charge of special projects, including the building of equipment for refuelling and decommissioning of nuclear submarines, introduction of lean manufacturing and the upgrade of facilities within the factory. I was responsible for the management of the Helath and Safety practises within the product cells I managed.
