They also run the UG inorganic and materials education and research laboratory there. Their expertise is in the creation, characterisation, and application-based-testing of novel functional bionanomaterials, including soft nanomaterials bearing therapeutic payloads. Ronnie combines research with technology transfer and technical management within the field. They have brokered partnerships between industry and academia, prepared white papers, SOPs, confidentiality agreements and reports to determine future R&D directions, and assisted with patent strategies. This experience includes setting up and operating laboratories, purchase of equipment, training of research and technical staff and supervision of production personnel. Their academic credentials include a PhD in the chemistry of nanomaterials (USask) as well as postdoctoral research on nanobiomaterials (UCalgary, UWindsor) culminating in multiple publications, patents, and 'trade secrets'. Their focus is to merge academic and industrial knowledge as they train junior scientists and students. They also remain committed to research focused towards the design of new products or enhancement of existing products with an emphasis on go-to-market production, meeting aggressive timelines and budgets.
